The skilled helper

This is a model adopted by Gerard Egan which is used a lot in counselling or coaching situations where the object is to achieve lasting change and to empower people to manage their own problems more effectively and develop unused opportunities more fully.

This model is based on an established model with a clear emphasis on helping people to help people.

While using this model we draw on tools to enable myself to understand the client so I can help them us define a problem, to clarify what outcome we need to achieve, the actions that are required and accepted to get to our goal and ultimately what has been done to get the results. This includes principles such as:

Assets and Liabilities

Life balance

Problem solving

Respect foundations

Personal change

Relationship development

plus many more.....
